Volgenau Scholars Program

The Volgenau Scholars Program supports students pursuing a degree or program of study that prepares them to teach in a math or science field in Kentucky schools. Sara Lane Volgenau grew up in Morehead, graduated from MSU and became an elementary school teacher. She and her husband Ernst Volgenau created this endowment, believing that improving education and the pipeline of STEM teachers will help the economy of Eastern Kentucky, the Commonwealth, and the entire nation.

Students selected as Volgenau Scholars receive scholarships that assist with their total cost of attendance. As long as recipients remain in good academic standing and continue toward completion of a degree or program that prepares them for math- or science-related teaching, the scholarship may be awarded for up to a total of eight semesters.
