What You'll Learn in Special Education
You'll learn effective teaching methods for students with special needs through a combination of classroom instruction and required clinical practicums (student-teaching.) Our degree options allow you to choose to specialize in elementary or middle school students. You can also choose to work with students with moderate to severe disabilities.
What You Can Do with a special education Degree
You can work with elementary school students with varying learning and behavioral disabilities as special education teachers in public and private schools in Kentucky.
- GPA of 2.75
- Core Academic Skills for Educators (CASE) Testing Series
- Interview
- Completion of required field experience hours
- Writing sample
- Teacher Performance Assessment
- PRAXIS Exam
- GPA of 2.75.
- Successfully complete the TEP interview process.
- Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication.
- Successful completion of prerequisite courses, with a grade of "C" or better (ENG 100, ENG 200, COMS 108, EDF 207, EDF 211).
- Students applying for TEP at MSU must take the Core Academic Skills for Educators (CASE) Testing Series.
Admission to special education
Students must meet MSU's admission requirements.
All teacher education candidates must apply for admission to the Teacher Education Program (TEP).
