  • All teacher education candidates must apply for admission to the Teacher Education Program (TEP). Candidates should apply for Teacher Education Program admission in the sophomore year since TEP admission is required for 300-level methods courses.
  • Students seeking initial secondary certification are required to complete a bachelor's degree from the following teaching preparation programs: biological science, business, chemistry, earth and space science, English, mathematics, physics or social studies.
  • Students must maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA.

Students applying for the TEP at MSU must obtain the following scores on the PRAXIS pre-professional skills (PPST) assessments:

  • Core Academic Skills for Educators: Mathematics - 150 AND
  • Core Academic Skills for Educators: Reading - 156 AND
  • Core Academic Skills for Educators: Writing - 162

MSUTeach is a program with a flexible approach that expands your career opportunities. Students majoring in biology, chemistry, earth science, mathematics, and physics can earn teacher certification through MSUTEACH. You'll have the option of pursuing a STEM career, graduate school, or teaching and sharing your passion with students. Through this program, best teaching practices are integrated within your content area allowing you to complete a Bachelor of Science degree within four years while earning teacher certification.
