Early Assurance Program

If you're interested in attending medical school, the MSU-University of Kentucky (UK) Early Assurance Program (EAP) may help you gain a head start on launching a career where you can improve the quality of life for people in rural Kentucky.

The partnership is part of UK's Rural Physician Leadership Program (RPLP), which aims to address the issue of limited access to healthcare in rural areas of the Commonwealth. If accepted to the EAP program, you'll receive assured admission to the UK College of Medicine and the Rural Physician Leadership Program upon successful completion of EAP qualifications and eligibility requirements and graduation from MSU with a degree in biology, biomedical sciences or chemistry.

You apply to the program in the second semester of your sophomore year, and up to five MSU students are accepted to the program each year.

Students in the EAP program participate in special program activities, including:

  • Shadowing local physicians
  • Community service activities
  • Attending UK's White Coat Ceremony in Lexington
  • Medical student peer group meetings
  • Monthly RPLP meetings
  • Community/research project orientation
  • Medical school curriculum preparation

Applications for the EAP are available on March 1 and are due by March 24. Program selections will be made by April 15. For more information on the Early Assurance Program, contact Dr. Craig Tuerk, MSU EAP coordinator, at 606-783-2958 or Bodie Stevens, UK administrative staff officer, at 606-783-6977.
